Instructions and a team to call.
Wisdom teeth can become trapped beneath the gum or develop without enough space. Some contribute to decay, infection, or damage to nearby teeth. An examination and imaging help your surgeon assess their position and discuss whether removal is appropriate.
An early evaluation helps you understand whether your wisdom teeth should be monitored or removed. We look at their position, how well they can be cleaned, and any effect on nearby teeth and gums. You can make a plan before a problem interrupts school, work, or everyday life.
We commonly help patients ages 14–25 and their families evaluate wisdom teeth before problems develop. Adults are welcome too. Your surgeon discusses whether removal or monitoring is appropriate for the individual teeth; age alone does not decide the plan.
Dr. Cameron Walsh and Dr. Stefan Vila hold both DDS and MD degrees and completed oral and maxillofacial surgery training. They review your medical history and medicines alongside your oral health as they plan treatment and anesthesia.
We review your health history, medications, and previous experiences with anesthesia. Local anesthesia, nitrous oxide, IV sedation, or general anesthesia may be discussed according to your needs.
Your plan also covers the first days at home: how to manage discomfort, which medicines to take, and when to call. You’ll know which options are recommended and how to prepare.
EXPAREL is a long-acting local anesthetic used to help manage pain after surgery. Ask your surgeon whether it is appropriate for you and how it fits with your other pain-control instructions. Your experience and need for additional medication will vary.
Platelet-rich plasma and platelet-rich fibrin are prepared from a small sample of your own blood. Your surgeon may use them at extraction sites to support healing. We explain the recommendation, alternatives, and cost as part of your plan.
For selected wisdom teeth procedures, PRF may support socket healing and reduce postoperative discomfort and the risk of dry socket. Results vary, and your surgeon will explain the expected benefit in your case.
A little preparation makes an unfamiliar experience easier to navigate. Tell us about school, exams, work, sports, or travel so we can discuss scheduling and the recovery time your plan may need.
A blood clot forms in the socket after removal. Your postoperative instructions explain how to protect it, clean your mouth, eat, and return to activity. Avoid smoking, straws, and forceful rinsing as directed. Contact the team if pain, bleeding, or other symptoms concern you.
